It's autumn again! The leaves are falling from the trees and the evenings are getting shorter. But the end of summer also means the end of beautiful days and hello rainy days. And while rain is good for the plants, it's not so great for our makeup. The Dutch weather is unpredictable, but luckily, with good preparation, you can save a lot.
1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
Just because your skin gets wet from the rain doesn't mean it's being hydrated. In fact, all that rain can actually dry out your skin. Makeup doesn't sit as well or look as good on dry skin. So make sure to use a good day or night cream to keep your skin soft and supple.
2. Use a primer
We've talked about this before: the magic of primer. A primer provides a good base and helps your makeup adhere better. Ideal for those drizzly days when your makeup is already having a tough time.
3. Waterproof makeup
This might be an obvious tip, but it's definitely effective. Nowadays, you can find a waterproof version of almost every makeup product. Waterproof mascara, eyeliner, or eyeshadow ensures that your eyes will always shine.
4. Use light colors
Sometimes it rains so hard that no primer or waterproof makeup can hold up. If your makeup does run, you'd prefer natural or light colors. A red lipstick on your chin gives a different look. If your makeup does run, a subtle gloss is much better.
5. Less is more
The best tip to prevent makeup from running? No makeup at all! What isn't there can't run. Consider bringing just the basics (like a powder and mascara) to school or work, so you can apply it there. Or go for a makeup-free day, which is also great for your skin.
Let's all hope we won't have to use these tips too often. Until then, an umbrella is also our best friend. Did you find these tips helpful, or did we miss any? Let us know!
